Imperial Guard: Savlar Chem-Riders

Today's post is to show some models I finished some time ago, but I was (and still am) very pleased with the results. When I started my personal Savlar Chem-Dogs army, I knew that I wanted rough riders - this army has a specialist form of mutant cavalry called "Chem-Riders". The problem is that GW hasn't released a decent cavalry model for 40k since the Rogue Trader days, and so I set about making my own rough rider models.

I started off with a very different concept (using WFB Chaos Marauder mounts - I will showcase those another time), but I ended up settling on the plastic Dark Elf Cold One kit. This is a useful and very characterful set which is quite easily converted.

As it turns out, the idea didn't need much conversion really. For the riders, I used some resin conversion parts from Colonel Gravis (now of Curious Constructs), old tank rider torsos, and heads from Pig Iron (like the rest of my Savlar army).

  1. These look great! I was thinking of making up some Savlar troops (chem-riders and Penal Legion modeled as chem-dogs ) to my guard army. They're a great old concept that doesn't get much love.

Now you've done such a great job I don't feel like I need to.

  2. You should do it! Always good to see someone else's interpretation of an idea. Let me know if I can help out with any ideas!
